Spider-Man & Friends

One of the very first superheroes collection I got for Isaac when he was about one was the Mega Bloks' Spider-Man & Friends.

These are extremely cool, well built and fun to play with. Now that he is older he doesn't play with them anymore but I wanted to kept them in our every growing collection. I think they are important and part of our "story".

Here is Isaac with the figures. I wish we would found all of them but hopefully someday we will.

Lego Mania!

According to the Batman Begins film from Christopher Nolan, Bruce Wayne was trained in the way of Ninja. With that in mind, it was only a matter of time before we decided to have both the Lego Batman and Lego Ninjago together as one story!

How convenient that the Lego Ninjago temple was built right next to the Batcave. Now Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Superman and Wonder Woman could all train and learn ninja moves. And yes, all our versions of Batman appear at the same time in our story!

But if this match in heaven happens what does it means? Well a match in hell has to happen too! Thats why Joker, Lex Luthor and others joined together with the evil clan of the Ninjago.

I wonder where they will meet for the first time and clash... the bank!

And while we are talking about Lego check out these amazing new images of some of the heroes characters from the highly anticipated Lego Batman 2 video game! You can see Nightwing, Shazam, Flash and even Aquaman! Isaac and I are getting this the day it comes out... June 19th.

Lego Star Wars

Isaac and I have decided to build our own Lego Star Wars Death Star. The official one is way too expensive. This is a long term project so I decided that maybe I should take some pictures of the various steps.

At first we wanted to make everything more compact but then decided to make it as big as it needs to be. Every section will be on a Lego plate of its own, making it possible and rather easy for those plates to be move to make it possible for us to change things... meaning more fun.

That was our first attempt but then decided to make everything on a separated plate. Here is the throne room of the Emperor, which is far from over but you can still get the idea of whats coming.

Lego

Here is a new Lego creation from Isaac. Its some kind of spider monster made from Ben 10 Lego.

And here's a look at PBS Arts: Off Book – Lego Art. Lego blocks are one of the most beloved toys in the world, playing a role in many a person’s childhood. But for some creators, LEGO has evolved from toy to art form. In this episode, we talk to three LEGO artists who have made beautiful mosaics, amazing stop-motion videos, thoughtful sculptures, and have turned these tiny building blocks into a true artistic medium.

Marvel Universe Captain America

The other Marvel action figure we got is Hydra soldier from the Captain America film. This is a cool looking figure with a nice weapon that actually fires!

As for Hydra, the organization's motto references the myth of the Hydra, stating that "if a head is cut off, two more will take its place" proclaiming their resilience and growing strength in the face of resistance. HYDRA agents often wear distinctive green garb featuring a serpent motif.

Marvel Universe Thor

Another action figure we got for cheap was a Invasion Frost Giant from the Thor film! Isaac really loved these guys in the film so he wanted to own one. Its actually a great looking figure with some cool accessories.

Of all the races of giants, the foremost enemies of the Asgardian gods are the frost giants, whose monarch is Utgard-Loki. The frost giants' powers are strongest in their own realm of Jotunheim, presumably due at least in part to the frigid climate of much of the realm.

And yes, this is Isaac doing his impression of the Frost Giant!

Marvel Universe

The grocery store we go to also have toys. Once in awhile they have a huge sale where everything is on liquidation... this time we got some Marvel Universe figures!

First one was Namor! This is a cool yet simple figure of the classic character.

Namor the Sub-Mariner is a fictional comic book character in the Marvel Comics universe, and one of the first superheroes, debuting in Spring 1939. The character was created by writer-artist Bill Everett for Funnies Inc., one of the first "packagers" in the early days of comic books that supplied comics on demand to publishers looking to enter the new medium. Initially created for the unreleased comic Motion Picture Funnies Weekly, the Sub-Mariner first appeared publicly in Marvel Comics #1 (Oct. 1939) — the first comic book from Timely Comics, the 1930s-1940s predecessor of the company Marvel Comics. During that period, known to historians and fans as the Golden Age of Comic Books, the Sub-Mariner was one of Timely's top three characters, along with Captain America and the original Human Torch.

The mutant son of a human sea captain and of a princess of the mythical undersea kingdom of Atlantis, Namor possesses the super-strength and aquatic abilities of the "Homo mermanus" race, as well as the mutant ability of flight, along with other superhuman powers. Through the years, he has been alternately portrayed as a good-natured but short-fused superhero, or a hostile invader seeking vengeance for perceived wrongs that misguided surface-dwellers committed against his kingdom.

The first known comic book antihero, the Sub-Mariner has remained a historically important and relatively popular Marvel character. He has served directly with the Avengers, Fantastic Four, the Invaders, and the X-Men as well as serving as a foil to all of them on occasion.

Flea Market Hunting : Spider-Man

Finally we found an action figure of Mysterio!! This is the "Mist Squirting Action" figure... ok strange name I have to admit but still fun.

I've always loved Mysterio as a kid. He's a cool looking character.

The original Mysterio (Quentin Beck) was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and first appears in Amazing Spider-Man #13, although it was later retconned that the aliens seen in Amazing Spider-Man #2 had been Mysterio and his men in disguise; it was revealed that he had been hired by the Tinkerer to disguise himself as an extraterrestrial and uncover military and industrial secrets.

Flea Market Hunting : TMNT

We scored another TMNT action figure, Casey Jones! Isaac and I love Casey, he's a cool and colourful character. I still can't believe that it was the great Elias Koteas who played Jones in the 1990 live action film!

And for those who haven't seen them yet, here's a look at the upcoming 2012 Playmates TMNT figures! Cowabunga!!!!!!!

Flea Market Hunting : The Batman + Lego

We found the very nice, stylish and detailed action figure of the Penguin from The Batman collection. Its a great looking figure.

Here's the very first look at the upcoming Lego Batman: Visual Dictionary (Lego DC Universe Super Heroes) book from DK Publishing is now available for pre-order and the exclusive minfig that will come with it has been revealed to be Electro Suit Batman from the upcoming video game.

As for the Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes game. Cyborg appears later in the game, along with new abilities. He can shoot lasers from his eyes, and interact with machinery.

Superman’s entire power set will be available. He can fly, he can lift anything, he can shoot lasers and breath cold. If goons start fighting him, they aren’t doing anything. However, he will have his weakness, as kryptonite is involved in the story. He can also destroy golden Lego bricks using heat vision.

Flash can dash around the city, and breaks things while doing so. He can zoom through a lamp post, leaving it in tiny Lego bits. “He’s the ultimate stud collector.” joked producer Phil Ring. In combat, Flash moves at super speeds, Lego body parts are even seen moving at lightning-speeds during combat.

Aquaman can do more in water than any other character. A still reveals that he can shoot water from his hands.

Green Lantern can fly, covered in and leaving behind some green energy. The Green Lanterns longtime enemy and member Sinestro will even make an appearance. It’s unknown wether Hal Jordan is the only Lantern to appear in-game. However, he is the only one found in story mode. Later in the game, green Legocovers Gotham. Only Hal can build stuff out of these Lego types. “He usually makes something crazy or ridiculous,” says Ring.

Wonder Woman can fly here, but don’t expect much from her Lasso of Truth. Sure it can tie up enemies, but they aren’t going to go around telling the truth. “We were wondering what to do with the lasso, but it just winded two enemies together. We decided it wouldn’t be able to bend the will of enemies,” says Ring.

Batman and Superman don’t trust each other. Fact. “We explore that stuff, but in ways people haven’t seen before,” says Ring. Batman will indeed make snide remarks to the Man of Steel, but will also get some new suits to swap to. The bomb suit now gives Batman super-strength, along with an endless supply of bombs. Not to mention being able to shoot rockets. He can even smash the ground and send henchmen flying. Bats also gets an upgrade and homage to the famous ‘Arkham’ series with the stealth suit for silent takedowns and an X-ray mode.

Flea Market Hunting : DC Universe + The Dark Knight Rises

We found some DC Universe Infinite Heroes action figures; Raven and Starfire. Unfortunately we are not really familiar with those characters but nonetheless we are happy.

Here's an awesome photo with what looks to be all of the DC Universe Infinite Heroes action figures! Update: Here's a site with a good list and photos of some of the Infinite Heroes collection.

And while we are talking about DC, here's the trailer for the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises film.

Flea Market Hunting : TMNT

Finally we found the TMNT action figure of Slash!!! This evil turtle from Dimension X is one of the coolest looking character of the original collection. He looks just mean!

We've been trying to find him for sometime now. Another goal we set ourselves, is to get all of those cool and unique TMNT characters.

Here it is in its original Canadian package.

Flea Market Hunting : Star Wars

One very cool find at the flea market was the original Walrus Man action figure released by Kenner in 1978. While fans gave him the name of Ponda Baba, for me he will always be Walrus.

Its a cool simplistic character who met the lightsaber of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original film.

Flea Market Hunting : Star Wars

Another Star Wars action figure we got was the cantina monster from the original 1977 classic, Muftak. This is one we didn't owned it and we want to have all of the monsters from both the cantina and Jabba the Hut scenes.

Like most monsters in the cantina sequence, it didn't have a name at first.

Flea Market Hunting : Star Wars

I think it is no secret that my son and I love the Star Wars universe. Personally I have been a fan since the release of the original classic in 1977.

We found another Chewbacca action figure we didn't owned yet. The Greatest Hits basic figure Chewie. This one is based on the Revenge of the Sith film.

Its a cool figure and just like the Mandalorians, you can never have enough Wookies!

Flea Market Hunting : Thundercats + Revenge from the Comic Ark

We love Thundercats and with the new series out we decided to get the original figures. So far we found a few but one we really wanted was Grune the Destroyer... and we found it!

Part of the second series released in 1986, this is a bad ass figure. It originally came with a spike mace and knuckleduster. Using your forefinger, push down the battle-matic action lever on the back to move both of Grune’s arms up and down.

Also I wanted to mention today's post on the great Revenge from the Comic Ark blog, where JboyPacman posted an image of the Burger King Gill-man we found for him at the local flea market a few weeks ago. Isaac and I knew that he was missing this one to complete his collection so when Isaac found it, he looked at me and said: "This one is for JBoy!"

One of the coolest thing about our blog is that through it we met some great fellow collectors who are just as passionate as us. :)

Flea Market Hunting : Clash of the Titans

As a kid one of my favourite collection was the Clash of the Titans action figures. For the past few years I have been trying to find some but no luck. Well during our last trip at the flea market I found some... for only 75 cents each!!!

I took all the ones they had, two Calibos and Persus!! Considering that these are over 30 years old, they are still in good condition! Sure they are missing their weapons but we are so happy to own them!

Now I want them all. Charon (the skeleton) was a favourite of mine. And I want Pegasus and especially the Kraken!! Isaac and I recently re-watched the original film again and we both loved it, a classic!

Here is a look at the complete collection originally released by Mattel.
