Favourite Toys of 2011

Favourite New Toys of 2011

1- Marvel Universe Galactus
"I Am Devourer Of Worlds!" - Galactus
It was after Isaac's very first trip at the dentist that I decided to take him to the coolest action figures store in Montreal, Legends. Lo and behold was Galactus standing there, waiting for us. This amazing electronic figure measures a mammoth 19" tall and features cosmic lights and fearsome phrases.

This huge figure is extremely well sculpted and detailed. Purple, light and dark blue, some black paint work is flawless. It is also well articulated (about 24 points) and says a total of eleven phrases! Push his chest button and he speaks and his eyes and helmet jewels light up yellow. And let's not forget the very cool 3 ¾" scale Silver Surfer action figure it comes with.

2- Batman Arkham Asylum
We are both addicted to the amazing Batman Arkham Asylum video game! Developed by Rocksteady Studios, this is without a doubt the best superheroes video game ever. Well scripted, stunning environments, kick ass fighting engine, Batman Arkham Asylum is amazing! I managed to find the first series of action figures at a local comic store. Santa also got more Arkham Asylum and even Arkham City figures for Christmas (more on that soon!).

3- Fisher Price Imaginext Batman
Last summer I finally gave in an ordered directly from Fisher Price online all of the Imaginext Batman figures we were missing. Just as expected this is an amazing collection from Fisher Price and hopefully they will continue it for years to come.

4- Godzilla
Bandai released those huge figures in 2007 but I was never able to find them anywhere. Finally found them at the ToyCon! Godzilla and friends have their dedicated place in our living room and every day stories.

5- Lego NinjaGo
For Christmas Santa gave Isaac the great Lego NinjaGo Fire Temple. Took me three hours to build this massive 1200 blocks set. It comes with a beautifully designed dragon, seven mini figures, traps and tons of cool stuff.

Favourite Retro Toys of 2011

1- LJN Advanced Dungeons & Dragons
As a kid I loved those! Unfortunately apart from one I lost them all. Needless to say that I was extremely happy to find Strongheart, Warduk and others at the flea market and for pennies! They are beautiful figures.

2- LJN Thundercats
My brother was a huge fan of the original Thundercats. We found some great ones at the flea market and hopefully will get more this spring when it opens again. Thunder! Thunder! Thundercats!

3- M.U.S.C.L.E.
Another collection my brother was into. We found a bag with tons of them at the flea market. These are Isaac favourite figures to play with while taking his bath.

4- Fisher Price Adventure People
Fisher Price never stop to amazing. Its like they always made amazing toys. One goal in 2012 is to find more of these.

5- Playmates Toxic Crusaders
I was a Toxic fan when the original Troma movie came out but never got into the cartoon. With Isaac its a different story, he loves Toxic and all of the bad guys we found.

And while you are here, check out our Favourite Toys of 2010 list!

Batman Arkham Asylum

The last of the Batman Arkham Asylum series 1 action figure we got was Harley Quinn. She is one of the coolest character in the video game. Colourful, funny, deadly and sexy... Harley has it all. Love the details on the figure which looks exactly like in the game.

And here is a very proud and happy Isaac with all of his Batman Arkham Asylum series 1! Now the hunt for series 2 is on...

Batman Arkham Asylum

The third one we got was Scarecrow. Now this is probably my favourite figure of the first series. Scarecrow is mean, bad and rather scary. For those who played the video game, the fights and sequences with Scarecrow are epic!! Isaac even got scared a couple of times.

Batman Arkham Asylum

Another Batman Arkham Asylum action figure we got was Joker! Now thats an insanely great looking figure! Love all the details to his face and costume! He also comes with Scarface, a ventriloquist puppet.

Batman Arkham Asylum

Isaac and I just recently started to play the amazing Batman Arkham Asylum video game! Developed by Rocksteady Studios, this is without a doubt the best superheroes video game ever. Well scripted, stunning environments, kick ass fighting engine, Batman Arkham Asylum is amazing!

I just remembered that some action figures based on the video game were released sometime ago. After making a few phone calls, I found the first series at a local comic book store.

Here is Isaac with Batman. A superbly sculpted and detailed action figure.

Transformers

The son of a friend of mine gave Isaac the wicked cool Contrusticon Devastator Transformers! This thing is HUGE! It actually weights 8 pounds. Its rather hard to find and now goes for around $350, insane!

We actually had to find videos on YouTube to see just how to built Devastator. This character actually appeared in the second Transformers film, Revenge of the Fallen.

The ultimate DECEPTICON weapon has arrived on Earth, and nothing will ever be the same. CONSTRUCTICON DEVASTATOR is the biggest robot ever-towering above AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS alike. As his Vortex Grinder snaps open and glows with power, all before him quake in fear, knowing their destruction is inevitable! Combine all six detailed vehicles - including MIXMASTER vehicle with motion-activated vehicle and conversion sounds! - to create the mighty CONSTRUCTICON DEVASTATOR figure! Lights and destruction sounds show his enemies he means business and when this CONSTRUCTICON DEVASTATOR figure speaks, theyre sure to run in fear! Includes LONGHAUL, MIXMASTER, SCAVENGER, RAMPAGE, SCRAPPER, and HIGHTOWER vehicles.

Flea Market Hunting : Aliens

So we found another Kenner Bull Alien which has a "power-ram" feature. Its a cool and ugly looking alien. This was released by Kenner in 1992. And yes we plan getting all of the Alien action figures we find!

While your at it, be sure to check out the incredible trailer to Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS, which will be a prequel to the classic ALIEN. Isaac and I will be seeing it the night it comes out!

Flea Market Hunting : TMNT

One very cool action figure we found was Usagi Yojimbo! Released by Playmates in 1990 as part of their extremely successful Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collection. This is a great figure!

Usagi appeared several times in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the comic, both of the animated series, and the toy line), and the Turtles have appeared in Usagi Yojimbo as well. In his guest appearances, he is closest to Leonardo, both sharing the same ideals and code of ethics.

Flea Market Hunting: Batman

We got an awesome Joker action figure from The Batman animated series. This is a wicked looking figure. Joker is the archenemy of Batman, having been directly responsible for numerous tragedies in Batman's life, including the paralysis of Barbara Gordon and the death of Jason Todd, the second Robin. Created by Jerry Robinson, Bill Finger and Bob Kane, the character first appeared in Batman #1 (Spring 1940).

Flea Market Hunting: Scooby Doo

We found another Scooby Doo action figure, this time Velma! She is prone to losing her glasses. She is usually seen wearing a baggy orange sweater, short pleated skirt (or in later episodes shorts), knee socks, and Mary Janes. She is seen as the brain of the group.

So now we are only missing Daphne...

Flea Market Hunting : Spider-Man

We finally scored a Carnage figure! Both Isaac and I love the character but didn't owned it yet. Its a cool and detailed action figure.

Carnage (Cletus Kasady) is a supervillain in the Marvel Comics Universe. The character first appears in The Amazing Spider-Man #344 (March 1991), and was created by writer David Michelinie and artist Mark Bagley. The character is frequently depicted as an enemy of Spider-Man.

Flea Market Hunting : Toxic Crusaders

We got a new Toxic Crusaders action figure! Released by Playmates in 1991, this crazy yet colourful series featured some of the coolest figures of that era. The new one we got was Bone Head. He is somewhat of a radioactive zombie!

Plus he glows in the dark... now just how cool is that!

Flea Market Hunting : McFarlane's Frankenstein

One extremely cool find was the McFarlane Dr.Frankenstein action set released a few years ago as part of the Classic Monsters Series 2. It comes with two figures, the evil doctor and its monster creation. There are various tools, an adjustable operating table and more! This find couldn't be at a better time since Isaac is getting interested into the classic monsters.

Flea Market Hunting : Lego

Another Lego we got was the Snowboarder Guy from series 5. Its a cool mini figure, even though neither of us like snowboarding or snow!

Monday, December 12, 2011

Flea Market Hunting : Lego

While at the flea market we got two others cool Lego mini figures. A rocker and a Viking. Not sure from where the first one comes but I think the Viking came from one of the earlier mini figures series.

Flea Market Hunting : Lego Harry Potter

We finally got some Lego Harry Potter mini figurines! The little $3 bag had both Malfoy and Potter in it. Isaac is not a big fan of the films but he does like to play the Lego video game from time to time.

On a side note, today Isaac completed the awesome Batman The Brave and the Bold video game on the Nintendo Wii that we got last July!

Saturday, December 10, 2011

Flea Market Hunting : Lego Space Police

We also got the very awesome Lego Space Police SP Undercover Cruiser (#5983). This set comes with two  minifigures: Space Police Commando and one of my favourite Lego figure ever, alien criminal Jawson!

You can transforms from undercover space cargo ship into Space Police pursuit vehicle, which includes shooting functions and opening cockpit. Its one of the coolest spaceship I have seen. there is also a small alien vehicle for Jawson.

Flea Market Hunting : Lego Space Police

During one of our last trip at the flea market we were extremely lucky and found used, cheap and complete Lego Space Police sets! The first one was the Space Truck Getaway. This big space truck contains 282 pieces and comes with two figures.

Its a great set that looks incredible bad ass and mean! Isaac is really proud of it.

Lego Lava Dragon

I  recently got Isaac the very cool Lego Lava Dragon! This is the first Lego game he got. Featuring 136 pieces, in this set the bravest knight will be the first on top of the volcano to summon the dragon! Its a cool game... and Isaac has already beat me to it three times!

By the power of Grayskull!

A huge fight took place at our home under the guidance of Isaac. The Masters of the Universe fought the Spawn who happened to fight Aliens while they were ambushed by Hellboy!

Seriously it was amazing just seeing how imaginative Isaac's was with all of these action figures battling it out!

Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Fisher Price's Imaginext

I got Isaac new Imaginext Sky Racers Flying Tiger plane. This tiger type plan looks very cool and you can even activate the mouth. It features spinning propellers, pop-down wheels, and a cockpit for a figure to sit in. The pilot is cool and comes with an awesome helmet.

Star Wars

Once again our home was part of a massive Star Wars "film" created entirely by Isaac. Following what last happened, the Emperor had clone himself twice... three times the terror! It was a long and hard process for the Empire to find the blue energy that enables one to clone himself, which was created by the race of tall, elegant beings called the Kaminoans of Kamino.

With the rebels finding refuge on Tatooine near Jabba the Hutt's palace, the evil Prince Xizor betrayed the Emperor and joined force with Jabba. The Emperor's anger send out a massive attack against the Prince and Hutt. Leading the rebel to join those mercenaries for that battle.

Marvel Universe Blade

While doing the groceries we finally picked up the Marvel universe action figure of Blade! This was released by Hasbro. Its a superbly sculpted and designed figure. Blade comes with his trench coat, blade and boomerang.

Isaac loves him! We had recently watched all three Blade films, so we had to get that figure which sadly it rather hard to find. Now Blade is at the centre of our adventures whenever we play with our Marvel figures!

Flea Market Hunting : Beetlejuice

We finally found a "complete" Beetlejuice action figure! Released by Kenner in 1989, this is the Showtime Beetlejuice. It originally came with a snake that sadly we didn't get. A great figure, especially for a buck.

Flea Market Hunting : Star Wars

Yes, finally after all this time we found Jabba the Hutt's throne! The seller at the flea market asking for two bucks only! Great find especially since we've been trying to get as much of Jabba's entourage as possible recently.

Flea Market Hunting : Aliens

We got a brand new and sealed (but it didn't stay like that for long) Aliens figure! Its the gorilla alien released by Kenner. It came with an amazing face hugger and a comic book! Wow! Both Isaac and I were extremely excited!!! Here he is with his Aliens collection as of now.

I recently found this amazing montage on the internet and wanted to share it with all of you. Unproduced 1979 3.75" Alien action figures from Kenner! Perhaps due to the fiasco (or fury) over the original 18" Alien Warrior, Kenner decided not to not proceed with production their planned 3 3/4" Alien action figures (the same scale of their popular Star Wars action figures). Five different prototypes were made: Ripley, Ash, Dallas, Ripley in Spacesuit, and what would surely have been one of the most desireable action figures ever made, the original Alien Warrior.

Flea Market Hunting : Frankenstein

We finally found Frankenstein from the Burger King collection of Universal monsters released in 1997. These new figures are very similar to the ones released by Remco in the 1980s. Ever since we watched The Monster Squad film, Isaac has been wanting to own these.

Saturday, November 26, 2011

Flea Market Hunting : Batman

We finally found the Happy Meal's Lego Mr. Freeze released a few years ago. We already have the Joker and I think Batman. I still don't understand why they made those so big... they should have been like the normal Lego mini figures.

Flea Market Hunting : Batman

We got a very cool Bruce Wayne action figure from the flea market. This cool figure was released in 2004 as part of The Batman collection. It is missing his mask and cape but Isaac is still very happy.
